Forest Lake Presbyterian celebrates Earth Sunday and new lighting!

May 23, 2019 by Dean Adams Leave a Comment

Forest Lake Presbyterian Church in Columbia, SC was selected to participate in our 2018/19 Congregational Energy Efficiency Challenge Program. It was my pleasure to participate in their annual Earth Sunday that included exhibits from about 15 environmental organizations, worship services about creation care and celebrated their upgrades from the grant.

“Congregations should make it a priority to both model earth care and to challenge their members and guests to live out their care of the earth in practical ways. Our increased use of LED bulbs models what we hope our members and guests will also do. We want to model that care of earth in lots of ways so that we set a good example for our members as well as for other congregations. We are so grateful for SCIPL’s help in this mission!”  -Ellen Skidmore, Senior Pastor

Additional congregations awarded for 2019 are: St. Thaddeus Episcopal (Aiken)and Trinity Worldwide Missions (Charleston). We are working to raise funding for another challenge in late 2019. Last year’s winning congregations successfully made facility upgrades with estimated savings of $33,000 over ten years on their energy bills. • Previously this beautiful stained glass window was not lit at night because of the expense. Now with the new LED bulbs it is affordable to let the light shine through to the community.
